Different causes: Hip pain can be caused by a variety of different conditions. Common diagnoses include: arthritis, tendinitis, bursitis, torn cartilage (labral tear), nerve irritation, and referred pain from the lower back. The exact location of a patient's hip pain is often very helpful to identify the underlying problem. An orthopaedic evaluation with x-rays should be considered if pain does not improve.
