IV not enough : They gave you an IV antibiotic to get a quick dose of medication into your system, but it wears off in 6-8 hrs depending on what was given. The Keflex is to continue the treatment to ensure the infection clears. Most infections require 7-10 days of treatment to eradicate the bacteria.
