Hypochondriasis: As colleagues have noted, this may be an anxiety condition known as hypochondria. However, recent research has found it to be much more interesting than simply, "it's all in your mind". Brian fallon, md, a research psychiatrist at columbia (and a friend) has coauthored an excellent book, "phantom illness: shattering the myth of hypochondria"[paperback]. Take a look at amazon, for example.
