He has spots and little edema on the legs , doc suspects venous insufficiency. what is it ? is it life threatening? how much concerned should we be ?

Venous insufficiency: Check out http://my.clevelandclinic.org/services/heart/disorders/hvi_chronic_venous_insufficiency for info re venous insufficiency. While it's not life threatening, it can be bothersome. Of note, ask doc to review his medications as some may cause edema. OTOH, edema may be due to heart failure & kidney failure (both of which can be life threatening), so don't just accept "suspects" but get proof.
