Dr & case dependent: Many dentists do not prescribe antibiotics routinely for many surgical procedures including the placement of a dental implant fixture. In most cases, not only is it not necessary, but over prescribing antibiotics unnecessarily leads to resistant strains of bacteria and super infections. If your dentist thought it was necessary he\she would have prescribed it for you. You should be just fine.

Varies: In the absence of infection, usually no antibiotic is needed nor prescribed. Often one is given only as a precaution. We frequently debate the need in many instances. If the surgery went well and was without any complications or noted infections, then you should be just fine.

Yes this is normal: Antibiotics are not routinely administered for the placement of dental implants. If there is infection present or diseased tissue is being removed, then antibiotics may be indicated especially in cases where a failing tooth is simultaneously being removed.

Not Normal: However, there is no evidence that antibiotics are needed unless the doctor suspects that you are at risk of infection or you have certain medical conditions warranting the need to premedicate. Refer to the american heart association for prophylactic antibiotic coverage details.
