No: If it's painful, you may need to let the pressure out by boring a hole in the middle of it. Once it has a route to drain though you should be fine. Good luck.

Just protect it...: You don't need to stop, but i would protect it by wrapping the entire tip of the toe with athletic tape. First over the tip of the toe, then around it for anchoring. Use 1 inch wide tape. Once it feels better you can stop the wrapping.
