Causes of Low HDL: Low HDL has many causes, including high triglycerides. A sudden drop in HDL should be evaluated .First repeat the reading, just to make sure it is not a lab error. Next, it is important to rule out drugs or medications that might cause this. One common cause in young men is the use of androgenic/anabolic steroids. Infection , and even blood cancers can cause this , as well as other diseases.
