No: The oral herpes virus is not airborne virus, not like the flue virus for example, so if there is no physical contact through skin, saliva , then it is very difficult to get infected.

Yes: We all have the potential to express the virus. It lives on the trigeminal nerve. Whether or not it becomes active is on a case by case basis, but the potential is there. It is uni-lateral and is usually self limiting. Medications can be prescribed. It is highly contagious. Do not kiss anyone or touch the lesion. Do not put vasoline or moisturizers on it.
