You Betcha!: Viral infections can be dormant in the tissue until some trigger usually mechanical injury or irritation (bite or sun exposure) causes a flareup and the revelation that you have it. First time exposure or primary herpes can be nasty with a high fever and stomach ache but usually lasts 7-10 days and clears up.

Oral herpes: The posibility of transmission is always higher when there is an active event and lower when there are no symptoms, but the virus is always there. So yes it is possible, i would see your doctor and ask for he/she to discuss the possibilities and what to look for to determine if you have contracted the virus.
