A member asked:

My gynecologist told me yesterday i had a large thyroid.... i've been told that before. had some test ran last year all was well should i be concer?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably not: An enlarged thyroid (goiter) can be related to genetic tendencies (familial goiter), autoimmune thyroid disease, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, iodine deficiency, nodular thyroid disease. As long as your thyroid function is normal, and you do not have any significant thyroid nodules that might require biopsy, and it is not affecting your breathing, or swallowing, there is usually nothing to do.
