Definitely!: Most doctors rely on TSH alone to assess thyroid. If you have cysts/nodules...you need a full work-up including ultrasound (if not already done), TSH, free T4, free T3, (liothyronine) Reverse T3, (liothyronine) Thyroglobulin and Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies, SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin), ferritin levels, selenium, and iodine levels. You may have a hidden autoimmune disorder known as Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.

Lack of specificity: Hi. There's not a single symptom associated with hypo- or hyperthyroidism that is specific to hypo- or hyperthyroidism. Therefore, it is not surprising that symptoms you thought were due to thyroid dysfunction are associated with normal thyroid function. Good luck at finding a cause if there is one!
