Bone inflammation?: Like periostitis? Vitamin d plays a significant role in bony and calcium metabolism, but not in "bone inflammation" or periostitis.

Not inflammation: Vitamin d deficiency can cause pain in the bones, and elevated levels of bone enzymes such as alkaline phosphatase. Biopsies are not usually required for vitamin d problems, but when they are done, show osteomalacia (abnormal appearing bone), but usually do not show inflammation (presence of lymphocytes and other immune cells).
