A member asked:

My basketball teammate has mono and has had it all season and didn't know it. could i have mono because of the close proximity when she was sweaty?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not likely: Standard mononucleosis is caused by the epstein-barr virus and is transmitted by saliva, not sweat. Most cases of mono are acquired from people who had mono in the past since the virus will be intermittently excreted in the saliva for years.
