It depends...: The location and character of the fracture makes a big difference on how hand fractures are treated and how long they take to heal. Fifth metacarpal ractures are usually casted 4-6 weeks and then a slow return to more regular activities is allowed. People working desk jobs can work with the cast on, those requiring their hand for heavy activities need 6-8 weeks before returning -.
