Medication can decrease the pain related to an outbreak and can shorten healing time. They can also decrease the total number of outbreaks. Drugs including famvir, zovirax, and Valtrex (valacyclovir) are among the drugs used to treat the symptoms of herpes.

Avoid touching: The fact that you are getting additional cold sores leads me to believe you may have touched and transferred the virus on a previous outbreak. Be carefully not to touch an active lesion. If you medicate an active lesion, wash your hands.
