Genetic counseling.: Have yourself tested to see if you have or carry the disease - beta major versus minor. This will help direct the genetic counseling. The counselor will be able to tell you the chances of inheritance, depending on whether or not you carry this. If you are completely negative, then the baby will never get the disease but has a 50% chance of being a carrier, that is, being beta thal minor. G'luck!
