High pregnancy: You should see a genetic counsellor. The risk for your baby to have a normal baby, beta thalassemia minor and beta thalassemia major will be 25%: 50%: 25% respectively. You need to know what you would anticipate and all the symptoms of beta thalassemia major- cooley's syndrome. Talk to your OB and go to genetic counsellor. Prenatal diagnosis: There is a strong possibility (75%) that your child will have thalassemia. There is a good chance (50%) that it will be thalassemia minor, like what each of you have. There is a possibility that your child has inherited the thalassemia genes from both mom and dad. This will produce a more severe thalassemia. Prenatal diagnosis are possible. Talk to your OB gyn about this possibility. Good lu.
