After your cycle: A hsg is done after the bleeding quits and before ovulation. If done while bleeding it may contribute to endometriosis.

Possibly pregnant: Most hysterosalpingograms (hsg) are done for infertility. The patient should be instructed to schedule the hsg before the 10th day of the menstrual cycle . To avoid the bleeding which may cause difficulty in performing and interpretation, the hsg is optimally done on day 5 through 10. The hsg could disrupt a fetus if an early pregnancy develops during the later more fertile dates of the cycle.
