How to cure heartburn?

Control-yes. Cure?: Heartburn (gerd) is a pain! many reasons for it. Usually obese, poor diet and lifestyle, but many are thin, eat properly and it is there. Avoiding fatty meals, alcohol, spices to some extent, avoiding eating or drinking after 6 P.M., elevating the head of bed 6-8 inches, taking antacids, alginates, h-2 blockers like pepcid, (famotidine) etc, prilosec, etc may help. May need surgery to cure. See pcp/gi doc.

Lifestyle change: Approaches to heartburn include: elevating the head of the bed, not wearing tight clothes that cinch the abdomen, avoiding meals late at night, waiting at least 3 hours after a meal to lie down, not allowing body weight to be excessive, not smoking, acupuncture, hypnosis, ginger tea, relaxation and medications such as antacids, Proton pump inhibitors or H-2- receptor antagonists.
