GERD: Hi, I have read studies regarding Levosulphride for treatment of functional dyspepsia and reported effectiveness of 30-40% but never had seen it being prescribed by our Gasteroenterologist, the studies have not mentioned a lot of side effects. As far as Nexium (esomeprazole) goes, a course of 8-12 wks should be enough, some of the possible side effects of Nexium (esomeprazole) are thinning of bone, low Platelet and C diff

Follow up with doc: When you say 'cure' do you mean your symptoms are not controlled on these medications? If so - return to your doctor, because 6 months is a long time to not have symptomatic relief. If you mean 'cure' as in; 'when can I stop taking the medications' - if the diagnosis is truly GERD, the answer is likely never. These are chronic medications for a chronic condition (diet+lifestyle changes may help)
