Vascular occlusion : How long does it black out for? Are there any associated symptoms? Do you have any other health problems or take medications? This could be very serious if it is a vascular occlusion(a blod clot or embolus). One's vision could stay permanently black or have a stroke. Circulation issues: When a patient has temporary loss of vision in one eye, it is called amaurosis fugax. It may be caused by blockage in the carotid arteries, or by a mitral valve problem in the heart. Carotid doppler testing and an echocardiogram are needed.
