Iron supplements: Don't take anything that you do not need! you can overdose on anything including iron. Unless your doctor has made a diagnosis of iron deficiency and recommended supplementation, then you have no need to take additional iron. And if you are deficienct in iron, then your physician should make recommendations about a workup to determine the cause of the iron loss.

Iron can be toxic: Iron overload can cause serious damage to your liver, joints, and almost every major organ in your body. It is for this reason that all supplement that contain more than a very small amount iron have a safety cap. Iron studies on your blood should be done to see if you need iron. Do not rely on physical symptoms of supposed iron need such as weakness, pale color, etc.
