A member asked:

My husband takes januvia. can this tablet cause iron deficiency. every 2-3 months his iron levels drop very low. 3-4. he has had both scopes done. everything normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Discuss with doctor: Iron levels vary in the blood and are not used to diagnose Iron deficiency. We use ferritin and transferrin saturation for that. I recommend discussing with a doctor , even a hematologist perhaps, to clearly analyze the lab results. I see no need to routinely follow iron levels every 2-3 months in my practice. Maybe another colleague can comment here on uses of iron levels the way you describe.
