Mucous: This can be a difficult problem. You need to find out why so that you can better treat. It could be allergic, then and antihistamine and/or nasal spray may be helpful.

Post nasal drip: In the absence of other symptoms , it may be due to post nasal drip. Try saline nasal irrigation twice a day, may help.

Depends...: Are you spitting because you are having trouble swallowing your saliva or are you coughing up phlegm? If you are coughing up phlegm, you probably have chronic bronchitis, a form of copd. If you are having difficulty swallowing, you may have a neuromuscular disorder. See your doctor for evaluation and treatment.
