That is bicarb: Some reasons for an elevated bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) are respiratory compensation for metabolic alkalosis, dehydration, breathing abnormality, vomiting, holding your breath (while the blood is being taken), leaving the sample in the syringe for too long before analysis, not storing the sample on ice before analysis.
