Co-sleeeping: It's is certainly possible for a baby to be injured while sleeping with the parents due to the adults moving during sleep. It is not recommended to sleep with your baby. Try using a crib or even a bassinet that you can keep next to you at the bedside for easy access to the baby.

Unlikely: Any rib fracture in an infant is produced by trauma, and is child abuse until proven otherwise. We also lose about 100 kids in the US yearly who suffocate while co-sleeping. If you know of a case, you have work to do or the kid may never live to grow up.
