Other choices: Any medication can cause you to have an allergic reaction -- like red spots all over your body. If you have been on this medicine for a while, and your pill is a different generic with different coloring, you could just be reacting to the dye or the chalk in the pill. If you truly are allergic to metformin, talk to your doctor about other medicine classes that you can try.
