A member asked:

I have the flu, should i go to the er? i've had it for 6days and it got worse and worse but today it calmed a little bit.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Usual course: The first 5-7 days of influenza are quite miserable. The risk is secondary bacterial infection because this virus damages the defense mechanisms of the respiratory tract. If you are now getting better you need not seek medical care, but if you develop fever, increased cough, shortness of breath, chest pain or other symptoms suggesting that you are worse, please go to er as quickly as possible.
