Hard or lg stool: It is common for an infant to have bright red blood streaks in a stool after it pushes out a large or hard one. A small fissure is the most common cause.Bright red blood indicates an origin near the exit. Maroon blood would come from higher in the colon or small intestines. These self heal over time but may persist. Altering the diet to keep stools soft helps avoid the issue in the future.
