Several causes of pain in the buttock area. Pain can be caused by a hamstring pull, by sciatica(limited) or by something called piriformis syndrome. Treatments for these things can include exercise, heat, stretching, injections, rarely surgery. Like any persistent pain, a physician should be involved at some point to do a more detailed exam and arrange tests or treatments.
