But, outstanding medications that can rapidly turn off this horrible pain exist. You must get to a headache doctor who really knows how to treat this disease - it is very different from migraines, etc. Options include oxygen, sumatriptan, verapamil, lithium, topiramate.

For me, : A physician and a patient with cluster headache, lithium, oxygen and most meds didn't help. My clusters come when the weather turns cold and can be controlled with a tapering dose of prednisone. The steroids keep the pain from coming on but i get tingling over the cheek bone instead - good trade off.

Meds and others: Medications are the first line therapy for cluster headaches. Other treatments include nerve stimulators and surgery on the small vessels of the scalp or face that cause the throbbing pain associated with the headache. The most important factor is establishing an accurate diagnosis and having a good physical examination by your headache specialist.
