Pfts: It is unlikely you have COPD at age 27 from smoking unless you have alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. The symptoms of COPD are shortness of breath and cough. A pulmonary function test can assess the degree of airflow obstruction that is present. This is the hallmark of copd.

Sx anf PFT: People with COPD often have symptoms of shortness of breath, chronic cough, and phlegm production. Pulmonary function tests can actually measure lung function and determine if the characteristic loss of lung function is occurring. In some patients this may even occur before they notice symptoms. Certainly smokers should quit regardless.
