A dentist: Only a dentist can fix the problem that is causing your toothache. Taking otc medication such as advil, motrin, aleve, tylenol (acetaminophen) or what you normally take for a headache but ease the pain temporarily, but won't eliminate the cause or solve your problem. The pain will only return, often with a vengeance, so see a dentist as soon as possible.

A dentist: There could be different reasons for a toothache . You should see a dentist to have it diagnosed and treated.

Seeing a dentist: There really is not a good permanent fix of a tooth ache than seeing your dentist who can properly diagnose and treat the "cause" of the toothache rather than treating the symptom of the tooth ache. Until you see your dentist, you can take 1g (1000mg) of tylenol (acetaminophen) and 600mg of Motrin (ibuprofen) in combination.

OTC pain meds: These will work for only a short while. Please call a local dentist for an appointment. This problem requires immediate attention.
