No one knows 4 sure: This is more a spiritual/philosophical question than a medical one, yet profound; i will share my personal belief: everything that happens to us happens to teach us spiritual lessons. "bad things" are often karmic- a response to our own actions in this or a past life. If you believe in reincarnation, from the perspective of eternity a "bad thing" is a life lesson that can help us to learn & grow.

How : During this life, each of us will face many challenges. Loss is inherent in living. I have learned through losses that knocked me to my knees that the question i needed to ask was not "why" (why did this happen?) but rather it was "how" (how do I recover? How do I grieve this, learn from it & move on with my life? God has not protected me from all potential harm but he has helped me through it.
