Sometimes: Teething causes excessive salivation which when lying down can cause a cough. Any mucus that gets near our wind pipe (trachea) cause an automatic cough to protect your lungs from mucus entering.

Maybe: I was taught in dental school that teething ( at least the first time around) often coincides with when the baby needs to develop it's own antibodies, meaning the baby can be at higher risk for getting a cold.
