A member asked:

Can psychiatric medications withdrawal bring out an underlying condition that otherwise has been laying dormant and under control?

Maybe!: An evaluation by your prescriber would be best for you. Tell about all the symptoms and look up the medication. Discontinuation symptoms may be opposites of side effects.

Underlying condition: The presentation of psychiatric symptoms are the most interesting aspect of this specialty. Underlying conditions can be brought up by any means, including withdrawal of medications. One example is tardive dyskinesia when stopping antipsychotics. When treating psychiatric conditions, we are looking for the underlying pathology all the time, and monitoring the progress includes diagnosing more.
