Visit the MDA site: Children with muscular dystrophy (there are many types) may grow up and become adults with muscular dystrophy. The mda (at mda.Org) is a large organization that helps with such patients throughout their lives. There is tons of information on their website. At children's hospitals, there are teams of doctors who set up weekly or monthly clinics to see their muscular dystrophy patients.
