Always tell: Although it will unlikely change the operative technique or approach, it is always a good idea to tell your surgeon about any change in symptoms or exam.

Just prior : Your choices for letting your surgeon know include calling the office, or letting him/her know the day of the operation. Use your judgment based on the relationship you have with the surgeon. Sounds like it won't make a difference either way, but each surgeon has their own preferences.
