Could be a : Tiny puncture wound or a laceration caused by sharp food particle - broken chip etc. Typically self healing. Do some warm salt water rinses - if it persists beyond 48 hours then perhaps consider seeing a dentist. Hope this helps and thanks for the qn.

Perhaps trauma: Could be a burn or scratch. Could also be viral or bacterial (think sore throat). Try salt water rinses and take an analgesic. If it does not go away in a few days see your family dentist or family physician.
