Consistency: A kidney transplant is a gift that needs protected. You need to consistently take your transplant (antirejection) medications, control your blood pressure, avoid all nsaids, if diabetic manage it well, see your nephrologist regularily, and like everyone it helps to be have a little bit of good luck too. Take care of yourself: low sodium diet, exercise, and be consistent. Good luck!

Overall health: Make sure you take your medicine, contact your doctor if anything changes, avoid whatever led to your original kidney faliure. Exercise, keep blood pressure and blood sugar normal.

Live smart: Make sure you are really good about taking your anti-rejection medications every day. Make sure your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugars are under good control. Eat healthy and be active. Get your blood work as often as you are asked by your transplant program. Good hygiene is extremely important and get influenza vaccine.
