Don't postpon tx.: The best thing you can do is to seek care as soon as possible. Abscess is indication of infection. Don't let your fear prevent you from proper care. Your doctor can prescribe you anti-anxiety medication to ease your fear and make sure you are comfortable during treatment. Dental infections can and may effect your systemic health. Please do not delay care because of your fear.

Schedule a consult: By having a consult , either in person or by phone, express your fears. Your dentist can then make a decision on wether to premedicate you , or if you may need sedation in the office, nitrous oxide analgesia, etc, .

Sedation: Dental abscesses need to be treated by trained dental personnel. Many dentists offer sedation to overcome fear and anxiety associated with dental care. Call your local dental society for help in locating one.

Seek help: Fear of dentist is not uncommon whether due to past experience or fear of unknown. An abcess is serious and needs treatment as soon as possible. A dentist will examine your mouth, take an x-ray, then place you on medication to control infection and pain. All done with gentle care. You will then have to follow up with treatment of the abscesses tooth. This can be done with sedation or anxiety meds.
