No: Root canals are technically involved. When performed by a root canal specialist, many different instruments are used. Lasers are advocated by some for sterilizing the root canal only, but this is not universally done by most endodontists, they preferring other methods.

Good question: No.. A laser can clean out some of the infected tissue but the root still has to be cleaned out mechanically and then filled.

Yes!but not the norm: Root canals have been successfully performed by using a variety of techniques. While most commonly preformed by using files and a "scraping" cleaning action, lasers have been used to both successfully sterilize a canal and clean it from start to finish. Please keep in mind that years ago someone must have successfully done a root canal with a hot needle. For now, stay with the more proven tech.

Laser root canal: A root canal cannot be done with a laser alone. Their are some ideas that placing a laser in the canals after instrumentation can help to kill bacteria and disinfect the canals. This is not common practice yet, but does have some therapeutic effect in some limited clinical studies.

Controversial idea: The laser probe is too large to get into the smaller accessory canals, hence laser combined with other techniques is recommended.
