My husband's comp metabolic panel was: got=47 & gpt=84 both shown as elevated. what could this mean? and what further tests do you recommend? thanks!

Abnormal liver tests: The SGOT and SGPT (now called ast and alt) are a bit elevated. These reflect your husband's liver function. I generally repeat the tests in a month, & ask patients to stop alcohol and Acetaminophen (tylenol) also. If the repeat test is still elevated, i usually test for hepatitis b & c. There are many medical conditions that can elevate liver enzymes - even weight; we search til we find a reason.
