Narcotic effect: The safest approach to narcotic-associated constipation would be to titrate upward doses of sugar-free metamucil (crushed psyllium seeds), making sure one drinks plenty of fluids. Fiber-rich foods are also recommended (fruits, vegetables and whole-grain cereals).
