Had a bone spur removed & joint fused in my hand a year ago and it still isn't pain free. think it was a cmc joint. is this normal to have pain still?

Depends: Mild achy pain is not uncommon, however, more severe pain is not normal. You should make a follow up with your orthopedic hand surgeon for a reevaluation and possibly need new imaging studies.

See Hand surgeon: Considering your age, I am surprised that a cmc joint was fused unless you have had significant trauma or have some form of severe arthropathy. For ongoing pain, though, it would be best to see a hand surgeon, repeat x-rays, diagnose the problem and if indicated get some hand therapy to improve functionality of the hand.
