Hand fractures can: Take 6-8 weeks to heal for simple long bone ( finger and metacarpal) injuries. Wrist bones, open injuries, injury with significant soft tissue damage can take longer. Joint fractures if displaced often need more than just splints or casts if the fragments are not lined up. Sometimes splinting by a hand therapist or use of a dynamic set up is needed to allow the joint to move. Surgery can be needed.
