Is there any research going on anywhere for treatment of eye floaters?

See your doctor: Eye (vitreous) floaters are more common as people age, especially in those who are nearsighted. A sudden increase in the number of floaters can reperesent a problem with the retina. See a doctor if you experience flashes of light or any vision loss accompanied by eye floaters; you develop eye floaters after eye surgery or eye trauma; you have eye pain along with eye floaters.

Floaters research no: I am a vitreoretinal surgeon and am not aware of any major research on floaters. The options to treat floaters in young patients are limited. Older patients may be candidates for vitrectomy surgery depending on severity of floaters. Most doctors advise waiting to see if they improve on their own. They are not harmful. Discuss options with your eye doctor.
