Counselling helps: I think anyone who has concerns about planing a pregnancy should consider consulting a geneticist. Every pregnancy has about 4% risk of an unexpected event, that includes prematurity, cleft lip, & others. Within your family tree there may be issues on either side that deserve discussion. With that data in hand you can approach the process with less worry on most occasions.See www.Nsgc.Org for list.

Goals?: Genetic testing is a personal decision and should not be decided on without careful consideration. A genetic counselor could help run through the ramifications. Celiac and thyroid conditions are not typically part of genetic testing discussion. Yes there is a chance to pass but genetic testing wouldn't tell you much more then that for those 2 conditions.
