Not necessarily: If there were a decline in overall condition a repeat chest x-ray might be appropriate. Kids with RSV often have patchy infiltrates on xray and routinely cough & sputter for up to a month after their primary infection. Chest xrays will often take weeks to clear beyond a patients clinical improvement, even with significant pneumonia.

Mgt/workup: RSV can linger- the cough may continue for about two weeks, but it should improve. If there is reversible wheezing, albuterol can be used to treat the cough. A cool air mist humidifier and keeping nasal passages clear will help alleviate the symptoms. A chest x ray is not needed at this point, but if there is worsening it can be useful to compare to the previous film .A virtual appt is available
