A member asked:

I'm having a colonoscopy please tell me what is considered a clear liquid can i have apple sauce? and why can't i have red jello? i only like the red

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Follow instructions: Generally speaking, the working definition of a liquid is clear is one in which you can pour in a glass and still be able to 'read the newspaper through it'. Apple sauce is not allowed. Red jello and liquids are not allowed because they can make any remaining fluid in the colon at the time of the colonoscopy look like blood. Follow your prep instructions so you can get the best exam possible.
